It’s the journey that takes you there…

That is a saying from the famous 16th century canine philosopher Yanki (yes, Yanki-Doodle). While, it doesn’t seem very thought-provoking, what he is trying to say, is that often the journey is more enjoyable than the destination. I had that experience today. Jethro decided to drive from Asheville to Boone on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The trip was incredible. Great views, no signs or commercial buildings and a beautiful day. Just picture me with my head hanging out the window, ears flapping in the breeze and sniffing all the smells on the wind. Of course, that didn’t happen. Jethro would never let me stick my head out the window. He’s such a killjoy. But picture of me doing it – it would’ve been great. It WAS great. If you haven’t taken a journey on the Blue Ridge Parkway, add it to your bucket list. It’s the way we canines ought to travel.

  1. Duchess,

You had me for a minute with talk of your head out the window, ears flapping, etc. I was thinking WOW, how did you get Jethro to put the window down for you? I know my Mom would never let me do that but really who cares anyway? I pick up enough almost dead cicadas here in the ‘hood to realize that I really wouldn’t want a mouth or eyeful of flying creatures from the wind.

It was a dreadfully miserable weather day here or so I’m told by my parents. I rather enjoy lapping at the rain water in the gutters and paddling through it during our walks. The walk was truncated today though because they don’t seem to enjoy that lapping and paddling stuff. So happy you’re having a great time.

    See you soon.

    Lily
